Device wont boot after accidently rooting twice.

Posted: 11 Mar 2018 08:34 PM PDT

my device is an LG G stylo. I dont remember the carrier because i got it secondhand.

To make a long story short, i accidently used KingoRoot, a one click rooting app on my phone after i had already successfully used it before.

My phone turned off when it reached 90%, and is now stuck on the first bootscreen.

this is my only phone and i just cant afford another one right now. is there anything at all i can do?

Moto Z Charging Very Slow

Posted: 11 Mar 2018 08:32 PM PDT

My phone has been charging very slowly for a while, and I recently tried to use an aux cord and a usb c to 3.5 mm adapter and there was no sound. I plugged the aux cord into my brother's iPhone and it work, and I plugged the aux cord with the adapter into my mom's Moto Z Force Droid and there was sound. My phone stops charging every time I unlock it. It will also discharge while charging. I did think this was an issue with either my battery or my charging cable at first, but since this aux cord doesn't work I know it's a charging port issue. I have tried my friend's OEM charger and it works perfectly. I can't always use that charger though.

Having trouble with Google Photos and other file managers indexing and showing specific video files

Posted: 11 Mar 2018 07:20 PM PDT

I use an app called AZ ScreenRecorder fairly regularly which saves all vidos recorded by it to the directory: /storage/emulated/0/AzRecorderFree. I've never had problems with it before. A few days ago, I was using the Asus File Manager to create a new folder in the internal storage which doesn't let the camera app index certain pictures I take as I didn't want them cluttering up my camera's in app gallery (i use the default camera app on my phone). I searched up how to do this and apparently all you need to do is create a folder with the suffix ".nomedia" and move the pictures from the /DCIM/camera to that and they are no longer indexed by the camera app. I did this on Thursday and it worked out fine.

I used the screen recorder on friday for some important game recordings and when I came back to watch them through the google photos app like I always have, they weren't there. I looked through the Asus File manager's video page and couldn't find anything in the AzScreenrecorder folder other than the one's I took on thursday before making that folder.

I figured pretty quickly that that folder may be the issue, so I went ahead and deleted it. That didn't seem to work. After a little more fiddling, I went to the in app gallery in the screen recorder and all of the files were there so there was no recording issue.

I kept trying to reload pages and see if it would sync but nothing worked. Then, I went to the Asus File Manager's internal storage tab, then followed it to the AzRecorderFree folder. All of my missing videos were there and perfectly playable. Looking at the AzRecorderFree folder within the videos tab of the file manager, I found that the folder size was less than the one in the internal storage, but the path of both was the same (/sdcard/AzRecorderFree), interestingly.

I have no clue what the issue could be at this point and would appreciate any help. Also, just to be clear, google photos has been syncing properly with all of my other pictures and videos so I don't see an issue over there. Photos has a "device folders" tab which has "AzRecorderFree" within it and is set to backup and sync, but the last video there is from Thursday.

Device: Google Pixel 2XL

System: Android 8.1.0

Apps used:

  • AZ Screen Recorder - No Root

  • File Manager (made by ZenUI, ASUS Computer Inc.)

  • Google Photos

Note the difference of the paths between 3 and 6 even though when selecting the actual folder like in #7 and 8, they're the same.

Also note the size difference between 7 and 8.

Thank you in advance for any help!

High end vs Midrange devices. Would a casual phone user actually notice the difference?

Posted: 11 Mar 2018 05:34 AM PDT

In the next few months my phone contract runs out and I am looking to buy a new handset. Since the last time I bought a phone (samsung galaxy s6), I've become aware of lower cost phones, e.g. honor, new nokia 7 plus (250-400) with apparently good battery (3000mAh), great ram and memory. These devices also seem to have the premium design, with the only draw back being a weaker processor. I recently took a step back and wondered if these high end devices have redundantly high specs?

Would a casual phone user actually notice a difference between this and say the latest flagships from samsung or lg? I understand there are differences but it seems to me that the top end devices have specifications that arent really utilised by most users (e.g amazing cameras to be used for things like snapchat).

So with this in mind is it worth someone investing a lot of money into a high end flagship when itll only be used for messaging/social media, music, occasional netflix and maybe some low level gaming (think: ketchapp). Or would one of the midrange models be able to handle that usage? if the midrange devices can, what sort of use would qualify buying one of the top end models?

Please help me understand how to stream movies with Kodi?

Posted: 11 Mar 2018 11:53 AM PDT

Hey! I installed Kodi on my home computer, hoping that I could stream movies in my library on my Android tablet when I'm away from home. On my tablet I installed the app Yatse which has both remote control and streaming functions.

Kodi on my computer works great. It quickly loaded all of my movies into its library. When I'm connected to my home wireless network with my tablet, I can connect to Kodi with Yatse and stream everything. Works just like I was hoping.

BUT when I am away from home, I cannot connect to Kodi and my media library. It doesn't even find the host. So what am I doing wrong? Don't tell my I can only stream when I'm connected to my home wi-fi?

Are there any other options to stream movies I have in Kodi with my tablet, when I'm not home? Why isn't Yatse working?

Changing the color of lock screen clock?

Posted: 11 Mar 2018 04:58 PM PDT

I have an LG V30 running 8.0.0

Having a lighter colored background, it makes it difficult to read the default white clock on the lock screen. I'm using Nova Launcher and see no way to alter the clock in those settings or system settings.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

How Capacitive Fingerprint Scanners Work

Posted: 11 Mar 2018 04:28 PM PDT

Hey everyone, I've been trying to learn as much as I can about how fingerprint scanners work on smartphones. I've been doing research and while I think I get how they work, I'm not too sure if I understand it, if that makes any sense at all. I understand that they use electricity stored in a fingerprint in order to scan for ridges and valleys underneath the skin but I'm not sure how they use the electricity. Does the scanner, after a finger/thumb is placed on it, send a very small jolt of electricity through your finger or does the scanner hold a charge and when a finger is placed on the scanner, the difference in voltage tells the scanner where the ridges and valleys are? I deeply apologize if this makes no sense at all.

Why are reminders not being dismissed even when I mark them as done?

Posted: 11 Mar 2018 03:46 PM PDT

This has been happening ever since I started playing around with Inbox instead of Gmail. I'll set a reminder on my phone, it will come up at the appropriate time, I'll mark it as done, and then I'll have 2 reminders when the next one shows--the old one that I marked as done, and the new one. Then I'll have 3 reminders. Then 4.

The only way to actually get rid of the old reminders is to actually delete them instead of mark them as done.

Did I mess something up in Inbox?

Huawei P9 - Additional on screen navigation

Posted: 11 Mar 2018 12:00 PM PDT

My wife uses a Huawei P9. She now has an additional button on the left border of the screen that activates a second set of navigation buttons when tapped. She doesn't know for sure when it appeared, it might be caused by an update. As it's constantly on screen it's quite distracting. Has anyone an idea how to get rid of it?

I deleted my phones OS?

Posted: 11 Mar 2018 03:33 PM PDT

I have been using a Demo Samsung S6 Edge (SM-G925X) as my primary phone for 12 months. I do not have cell plan - but I use wifi & Google Hangouts to make calls.

When I allow my phone to go below 2% it has a very hard time charging, usually if I'm patient with it and figure out a good arrangement of the male micro usb of the charger in the female micro usb acceptor of my phone - I can get it to charge, after it reboots repeatedly for a while.

Last night I let the battery get to 0%. This morning the charger wasn't working for me, I assumed it was the charger because it was bent. I tried another charger (because it is finicky with chagers) it only got me to the screen that showed the Samsung animation and "samsung galaxy s6 edge live demo unit powered by android" screen. I let it loop like this for a good 10 hours.

Then I got the (not so) brilliant idea to start playing with the phone. I'm confined to my bed, otherwise, I would have tried other chargers (I think eventually it would have worked). I started clicking buttons (home, off, volume up and down) hehe...

TLDR: Mashing buttons brought me to a software called "TeamWin" I then did a backup of my data by following the prompt, I thought this would be a failsafe. Secondly, I either restored or wiped my phone, not sure, don't remember. Then when I tried to go back and restart my phone it said that I no longer had an OS.

Presently it is stuck like this, I'm worried the pixels will burn the logo into the screen or wtver. WhatcanIdo?

How do you remove downloaded Progressive Web Apps from Chrome for Android?

Posted: 11 Mar 2018 03:04 PM PDT

I'm using a Motorola G5 Plus. I'm using Chrome as my mobile web browser. I go onto the Progressive Web App website " https://www.pokedex.org ". This website is now automatically fully-functional offline. Unlike other downloaded websites (but curiously, like bookmarks) this doesn't appear in Chrome's download folder.

Is there any way to delete this download?

I understand it probably won't take up much storage space, and it may get deleted if necessary, but I'd prefer to be able to delete this download manually if possible.
